PURPOSE
MENU SMARTS and CONFIG QUICK are two DOS utilities that should have come with
the advent of PCs and MS-DOS. Working together or seperately they fill in the
conceptual gaps left by MS-DOS and traditional menu programs. These utilities
will most likely be appreciated by advanced users, avid game players,
consultants and MIS managers who understand the frustrations involved with
multiple configurations.
MENU SMARTS is a menuing program that, most importantly, is configuration
specific. This means that Menu Smarts provides a better way to load programs
that require different configurations. Simply, select a program from the
menu. If the selected program requires that a different config.sys and or
autoexec.bat be loaded Menu Smarts will automatically reboot your PC, load the
required configuration files and execute the program originally selected from
the menu.
MENU SMARTS allows you to scroll up and down your list of menu options sorted
by program name or description. Another valuable MENU SMARTS feature is the
auto search and match which enables the fastest and most logical method of
selecting a desired menu option. Simply, start typing either the description or
the command of your the menu selection you wish to use. MENU SMARTS compares
your keystrokes to all the menu selections, advancing to any selections that
match your keystrokes.
CONFIG QUICK is a configuration management program that links with MENU SMARTS.
CONFIG QUICK provides greater flexability and organization in changing
config.sys and autoexec.bat files. Create as many configurations as you need
and easily load configurations at a moments notice. The user interface in
CONFIG QUICK is nearly identical to MENU SMARTS.
SUMMARY
Most menu programs work fine with a limited number of menu options. These
traditional menu programs implement the use of multiple menus to handle a large
number of options. MENU SMARTS scrolls through all of your menu options at
the touch of a key. Menu options can be sorted by program name or description.
With dozens of menu selections the unique auto search and match feature really
starts to pay off. MENU SMARTS offers the most efficient way to access a large
number of programs.
"More than just another menuing program ... designed to minimize keystrokes and
headaches"

Installation Instructions
Prior to installing this software package your PC should display a DOS prompt
when booted. If windows or another menuing program is being executed upon
booting, please remove or rem out the lines in the autoexec.bat file.
If you are using a hard disk caching program other than smartdrv.exe you may
want to disable it or modify the line (smartdrv -c) in the warmboot.bat file to
flush your particular disk cache prior to reconfiguring. Reconfiguring with a
cache of information that has not been written to the hard drive could cause a
loss of data.
In order to install Menu Smarts and Config Quick you should make the drive and
directory with the installation files current and then type install at the dos
prompt.

If you're curious about how it all works, please read on.
The paths on these sample entries may not be the same on your system but you
most likely have the sample programs on your system.
The sample ms.dat file is listed below:
"cq","c:\ms","Confiq Quick v1.7","000"
"doskey","c:\dos","Doskey","000"
"memory","c:\ms","DOS memory command","000"
"win","c:\windows","Windows v3.1 by Microsoft","000"
The ms.dat file is a comma seperated ASCII file with four fields to a record.
The first field is the executable, batch or command file. Menu Smarts will
work with any program you can run from the dos prompt. The second field
indicates the path (drive and directory where the file can be found). The
third field is a description of the file. Please stick to the basic character
set since some characters are not supported. The fourth field is the field that
enables the advanced configuration capabilities of menu smarts. If you don't
plan to use this feature you can stop reading now, otherwise read on.
CONFIG QUICK can be selected from the Menu or run by typing CQ at the DOS
prompt. Config Quick comes configured with two options. The first option is
the default configuration identified by "000". When you select this option
from the Config Quick menu nothing will happen.
When a program is selected from Menu Smarts the code in the fourth field of the
ms.dat file indicates what configuration should be be loaded. A Configuration
ID of "000" indicates that the current configuration whatever it is ... is fine.
Any configuration ID other than "000" tells Menu Smarts to make sure the
specified configuration is loaded prior to running the menu selection.
GOOD LUCK!
